Odour traps for floor drains
– hygienic, maintenance-free, backflow-proof –

A well-maintained washroom stands or falls on its odour levels – no matter how clean the surfaces are. With Sanicus’s odour traps for floor drains, you can eliminate unpleasant odours permanently and reliably – without the need for chemicals, trap fluid or time-consuming maintenance.

Our systems are based on mechanical silicone membranes which open briefly when water flows through and then reseal airtight. This effectively blocks drain odours – even during prolonged periods of dryness or irregular use. Unlike traditional siphons, our odour traps are backflow-proof in accordance with DIN EN 13564 and require no refilling or monitoring whatsoever.

Assembly is simple and tool-free. Existing floor drains can be retrofitted without conversion – a decisive advantage for operators of schools, care facilities, restaurants, or administrative buildings. Our odour traps are also successfully used in technical rooms, basements, or wet rooms.

Our odour traps for floor drains are the ideal solution for anyone looking for a long-term, sustainable odour barrier – with no need to replace any components, no vapours and no extra effort. The materials used are resistant to cleaning products and mechanical stress, making them perfectly suited to professional, day-to-day use.

Combine our odour traps with other Sanicus sanitary solutions – such as fragrance dispensers, cleaning products or hygiene dispensers – to ensure your premises are hygienic, safe and permanently odour-free.

Conventional floor drain with stainless steel cover

Step 2

Remove the lid and the siphon located within it. Measure the inner diameter of the pipe; this is a common cause of recurring smells from the floor drain in utility rooms.

Step 3

Depending on the inner diameter, the appropriate floor drain adapter is used to create a closed drainage system with a physical barrier.

Step 4

Re-attach the stainless steel cover to complete the process.

Frequently Asked Questions

A closed drainage system is a piping mechanism that collects and discharges liquid waste, reduces odours to a minimum and prevents sewer gas from entering the sanitary facility. It consists of sealed pipework that channels wastewater directly into the sewer network, and is mainly used for floor, shower and sink drains.

Our patented product line uses one-way valve technology that reliably separates the sewer from the sanitary facility by means of a physical barrier. Unlike conventional liquid seals, this system is not susceptible to evaporation or siphoning – two of the most common causes of persistent odour problems at floor drains in commercial sanitary facilities.

Yes, regular maintenance is essential for flawless operation. This includes periodic inspections, cleaning the drains, and clearing any blockages. We also recommend replacing the one-way valve annually to ensure permanently clean and odour-free conditions at all drain points.

By reliably containing and properly channelling wastewater, the closed drainage system minimises both odour emissions and the spread of harmful bacteria. It also prevents the release of gases that could affect indoor air quality, helping to maintain a hygienically flawless sanitary environment.

Conventional water seals rely on liquid siphons, which can be affected by evaporation, pressure fluctuations and siphoning – resulting in odour problems in high-traffic sanitary facilities. Closed drainage systems, on the other hand, use a physical barrier in the form of a one-way valve, which is unaffected by these influences and therefore guarantees a permanently reliable seal.
